Summary: No stranger to the spotlight, in January of 2014 pop celebrity Britney Spears admitted that she has had no plastic surgery, but that her doctor has recommended some “fun” things, such as lip injections. While the injection itself might not be the most pleasant experience in the world, her new lips probably were, and it highlights the ability of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures to be fun and transformative for a wide segment of the population. It’s not just for celebrities, after all.

Let’s Have Some Fun

Remember when you were a kid, and makeup was fun instead of a chore? Britney Spears does. In the January 2014 issue of InStyle magazine, celebrity icon Britney Spears reiterated that she’d never had plastic surgery, despite the rumors. However, she also mentioned that she’s done some of the “fun stuff,” such as lip injections and facial treatments (such as skin creams and mixtures). It’s true that the injection itself might not be the most fun you’ll ever have, but we certainly appreciate Spears playing up the fun aspect of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.

Like Make-Up

Make-up is fun, or at least it used to be, because of that element of fantasy (sure, sometimes lipstick was for big lips, but it was also sometimes the blood in your zombie costume)—and in a way, the same is true about nonsurgical cosmetic procedures, such as the above-mentioned lip-injections. This isn’t meant to treat such procedures lightly, or with careless whimsy (injecting your own Botox can have far more serious consequences than piercing your own ear, for example… though, don’t do that either).

Non-Permanent

These procedures are appealing because they are not permanent. They offer a chance to engage in that fantasy, to view yourself in a new, more youthful light. Injectables and wrinkle treatments also usually convey a boost of confidence as well—you notice how good you look, and so will everyone else. It’s a lot like wearing your favorite outfit or your favorite make-up, or even like finishing a particularly challenging book.

So here are a few procedures that can give you that boost:

  • Botox is probably the most famous injectable out there. And rightfully so. It has a well earned reputation for eliminating wrinkles and fine lines in the face. It does so by temporarily paralyzing the muscles which, when contracted, are responsible for those wrinkles in the first place. By relaxing your face muscles, your skin looks smoother. And when your skin looks smoother, your face looks younger.
  • Lip Injections: So this is the one that Britney Spears actually mentioned. A lip injection is a simple procedure in which either purified fat or a dermal filler is injected into your lips to give them a fuller, more rounded appearance. A couple of quick shots and you get nice, big lips. The affect usually wears off in a few months, so if you find yourself totally in love with your new lips (and who would blame you), it’s something you’ll need to regularly maintain.
  • Exilis: Liposuction is one of the all-time top plastic surgery procedures. And even though it’s not nearly as invasive as it used to be, it’s still not for everyone. So if you’re looking for a way to get rid of some persistent pockets of fat and tone some tissue, you might want to check out Exilis. This procedure uses radio frequency waves to, essentially, destabilize fat and tighten skin. To be sure, the results are modest when compared to a truly surgical procedure, such as liposuction, but Exilis is far less invasive, and it’s nonsurgical. In fact, according to the Minneapolis Exilis professionals at Carillon Clinic, as stated on their website, the only discomfort that most patients experience is a warm sensation around the site.

Fun For Everyone

So whether you’re talking about your face, lips, or belly, there are “fun” procedures for each of those areas. And while the fun might not necessarily be in the procedure itself (because, yeah, needles aren’t really all that much fun), it’s the transformation—the new potential—that gets people excited. Because suddenly you can be a new person, and that no person is totally you.

Don’t be afraid to have some fun yourself.
