three symptoms juvederm can treat

Summary: Why is Botox so popular when the world is filled with all kinds of various procedures? The numbers aren’t even close. Botox blows everything else out of the water. But what’s so special about Botox that nothing else can compete with it? The answer likely has something to do with how effective Botox really is and how many people it actually appeals to.

Why is Botox so Popular These Days?

According to the statistics published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there is no procedure more popular than Botox. It’s not even close. Roughly 7.23 million Botox injections were performed in 2017 alone. But why is Botox so popular? What makes it so fundamentally different from other, similar procedures? Why are there millions more Botox procedures performed every year than there are dermal filler procedures?

The answer to that question is going to be somewhat complex. Everyone has their own individual reasons for getting a cosmetic surgery procedure performed. Which means that talking about broad trends, like the popularity of Botox, has to come with certain caveats. As in, we’re not speaking for everyone and we’re certainly going to accidentally leave some reasons out.

So, why is Botox so popular? Is there something special about this particular injectable? Well, there has to be, doesn’t there? Botox is popular for a reason. So let’s take a few minutes and look at what some of those reasons are!

Multiple Injections in a Year

There’s no denying that one of the reasons that Botox is popular is because it produces good results. We’re not going to spend a lot of time on that point because there’s not really much more to it. Instead, we’re going to focus on some of the less obvious reasons why Botox might be as popular as it is.

For example, one reason Botox is so popular is because in order to maintain your results, you need to get multiple injections a year. In fact, you’ll probably get injections every four month or so if you’re interested in maintaining. At first, that might seem like a knock against Botox. But it’s really not–we’re talking about repeat business here.

In other words, you wouldn’t get Botox maintenance injections if those injections didn’t work in the first place. And the fact that Botox is temporary in nature is often seen as a positive as well: people can take their cosmetic procedures for a test drive this way. They can then adjust the results where necessary in order to make sure they like what they see.

That some people get Botox multiple times a year certainly inflates the numbers a little. But it’s evidence of Botox’s popularity.

Multiple Uses for Botox

Another reason for the popularity of Botox is that it’s not just a one trick pony. Botox can be used to treat a multitude of issues, including the following:

  • Botox has been shown to have some positive effects on clinical depression
  • For many migraine sufferers, Botox is a good way to get relief
  • Injections of Botox can help with TMJ (pain in the jaw due to inflamed muscles)
  • Many patients will also use Botox to actually prevent wrinkles.

Cosmetic surgeons are introducing new ways to use Botox all the time. It’s definitely something of a “wonder drug” (okay, don’t take that too literally, but you get what I’m saying). You can see how, with so many different uses, Botox can begin to appeal to a broad array of patients. It’s not just that Botox does one thing–Botox does many things.

And that means that it gets even more popular.

Name Recognition

Botox was possibly the very first injectable designed to help you look more youthful. It’s given facelift procedures a run for their money–at least in terms of popular imagination (Botox can’t really compete with facelift results, but it’s not really trying to either). There’s a certain amount of name recognition that comes from that.

And we’d be remiss if we didn’t consider that name recognition as part of Botox’s popularity. Everyone knows what Botox is, even if they have questions about how it works and what it will do. But the fact is that if you go into a cosmetic surgery clinic or a medical spa and ask for Botox, you’re going to get some kind of treatment.

Now, Botox isn’t going to work on every kind of wrinkle. It’s not as though surgeons are just going to blindly start injecting Botox when a patient asks for it. Could be you’re a better fit for a dermal filler or something. But Botox’s place in the public consciousness certainly has an impact on how popular the procedure is.

Finding What’s Right for You

Finally, we should point out that if you’re asking, why is Botox so popular, you should also be asking about what’s going to work for you. That is, just because something is popular does not mean it’s the best solution for you and your skin. If you want to get rid of wrinkles, for example, a dermal filler injection might work better for you.

That said, Botox is popular for a reason. Over 7 million Botox injections were performed throughout 2017. That’s an increase of 2% over the past year. And if we were the betting types, we’d wager on something similar happening in the next year. Why is Botox so popular? For lots of reasons. But it’s definitely getting more popular as time goes on.
